Deadtide

Mixing up melodic death metal and atmospheric black metal, Denmark's [and now Lost Disciple Records'] Compos Mentis play an enjoyable and rather unique brand of music. Sounding a bit like a cross between At the Gates meets Anathema, they've created in Quadrology of Sorrow an EP that runs the gamut from quick Swedish death metal to emotional rainstorms to a final, delicate piano piece while telling a tale of creeping insanity brought on by overwhelming sorrow. The ending passage of Visions of Tragedy taps some of the same emotions as the aforementioned Anathema did on Serenades and in doing so, shows a genuine maturity and knack for writing dramatic music. I've a feeling that some good things will come of this band.
